PSB Academy Ad Campaign 2010

PSB Academy Ad Campaign 2010 : The New Paper 190110.

The New Paper 190110.

If you flip through Today or The New Paper these few weeks, you might get a chance to see our students doing some really fascinating stuff (dissecting aliens or balancing on a log while listening to a lecture).

The interesting part about the shoot was the digitally created background. So during the shoot, all I had to do was to stand against a black screen and look up with a pair of binoculars.

They didn’t have a wardrobe so I had to bring my own clothes and bag. Most importantly, I was wearing the watch which Jessie gave to me on my birthday!

[ Update: 210311 ]

My sister, Michelle, spotted the ad at Delta campus. Thanks for the pictures Michelle!

Pandemic 2 (game)

leave a comment »

Pandemic 2.

Pandemic 2.

Now its up to you to evolve your disease, infect mankind and kill them all!

My strategy to complete the game :

1) Start with parasite class.

2) Start in Madagasca (might require repeated attempts).

3) Sell all symptoms.

4) Set game to fastest speed.

5) Wait till you have accumulated 60-70 evolution points.

6) Buy transmission : Rodent.

7) Buy all resistances in a horizontal manner.

8) Wait for a ship to leave Madagasca and start infecting the world rapidly.

9) Once the world has been infected, buy transmission : Insects.

10) Buy symptoms : Vomiting.

11) Once the world has turned red, buy symptoms : Sores, Fever and Fatigue.

12) Buy all other lethal symptoms and watch the world end.

Tried this three times and it works!

Lately, I have been involved in a self-funded alcohol research project. I would drink 2000ml of different types of beer under the following controlled conditions :

  1. All drinks must be paced over a period of 2 hours.
  2. 2 hours prior to the start of the experiment, I would consume a light dinner solely consisting of fishball bee-thye-mak.
  3. All experiments begin around 9 p.m.
  4. After 2000ml of any beer, I develop a strong craving for miso soup. I have also taken into consideration the taste of miso soup upon completion of the experiment.

Before I present to you the results of the experiment, I would like to define the term Indian-beer.

Indian-beer

One night, I was walking to a provision shop run by an Indian family. I noticed a few foreign workers lying outside the shop, on the grass patch, with empty long cans of Haywards, Pirate and Knock Out beers strewn about. I met my Indian friend who runs the shop and I asked him if the beers they were drinking were that kick-ass. He put five long cans of the assorted beers in the plastic bag, handed it to me, and the last thing I remembered (that entire night) was…

You have to try it to believe it.

Hayward 5000.

Hayward 5000.

Hayward 5000 : Alcohol strength not exceeding 8%.

Alcohol strength not exceeding 8%.

These types of beer are usually not available in provision shops run by Chinese families. They are cheap, compared to a benchmark price of Baron’s Strong Brew 8.8% long cans. They are frequently purchased by the non-locals.

Results

Drink : Tiger, Skol, Carlsberg

Quantity consumed : 2000ml

Alcohol Percentage : 5% (about there)

Miso soup : I drink three bowls of it. It tastes really good. I walk out to get more beer.

Drink : Baron’s Strong Brew

Quantify consumed : 2000ml

Alcohol Percentage : 8.8%

Miso soup : I get 3/4 bowl worth of soup in my mouth. The remaining 1/4 is on my tshirt, shorts, or table. The miso soup tastes even better (than above). However, I can only manage to drink one bowl. I stumble out to get more beer, but change my mind when I reach the lift. I get a slight hangover the next morning, which is fortunately curable by swallowing 2 Panadols.

Drink : Haywards 5000 (2 black and 2 white)

Quantity consumed : 2000ml (total)

Alcohol Percentage : NOT EXCEEDING 8% (I have no idea why they can’t be more specific)

Miso soup : That was the night. I make the miso soup but I don’t drink it. I can’t seem to hold the spoon. I crawl to the sink, stick my finger into my mouth, try to vomit but I can’t. I lie on the bed and call Jessie. I complain to her that my daddy doesn’t love me anymore. I pass out while she’s trying to tell me something. Michelle comes in, removes the phone from my face, tucks me into bed and turns off the light. The hangover the next day is so bad, I can barely sit up straight without swaying.

As I am unable to obtain corporate funding for this research project, I am unable to conduct in-depth scientific studies to determine the exact cause of the difference between the results.

Common-drinking-sense states that the higher the alcohol content, the greater the likelihood of a person getting drunk. The alcohol percentage in Haywards 5000 is less than Baron’s Strong Brew. My question is… will someone who has more experience in this field of research be kind enough to share with me (and my colleagues) why the miso soup tastes so much different between the 2000ml of Indian-beer and non-Indian-beer?

Or maybe I have motivated you enough to conduct your own experiments and share the findings with us?

Reader's Digest Sweepstakes 110110

leave a comment »

Every time I receive my monthly copy of Reader’s Digest, I receive a sweepstakes entry form or a personalized (oh, it’s my name there!) letter claiming that I have been shortlisted to win a prize.

The prize is either a 5-to-7 digit sum of money, a car or some mystery prize.

I am instructed to tear out some stickers, paste it over some boxes and mail it back to them.

I have absolutely no intention to retire early (and that money isn’t everything). So I tear the stickers off…

And paste them all over the covers of my files.

This is the third file cover I’ve filled so far.

I have cleared almost everything on my To Do List sitting on my table. It is a miracle. How is this possible when I have not been doing anything for the past few days except clearing my To Do…

I’m opening four long cans of heavy-duty-Indian-beer tonight as a celebratory gesture.

Cheers my friend. Let’s drink because we deserve it.

She is actually Indonesian Chinese. However, few people have mistaken her to be Malay.

Besides Malay, she speaks Chinese and Hokkien as well. She has actually told a few people off for saying something bad about her in Chinese and Hokkien. They thought she didn’t understand.
