It’s about time…

Someone in the family is down with H1N1 and will spend the whole of next week at home.

Nothing to worry about since the fatality rate is so low.

We’ll all be exposed to it someday.

Never Use Hand Soap To Wash Your Face

with one comment

I have oily skin and I’m well aware of it. Exercising just adds a lot more oil to my face.

So I thought that by washing my face with hand soap first, then using facial foam, I could keep my face dry and clean. True enough, my face felt extremely dry. But it became very oily (even worse than before) within the next 2 hours.

I continued this for two weeks or so, satisfied that I have washed my face thoroughly.

One morning, I woke up to an eruption of cystic acne and whiteheads all over my face. It was so bad that I didn’t dare to look at myself in the mirror.

I stopped using hand soap to wash my face and the acne subsided. Nightly applications of pure lemon juice (stings like crazy) all over the face managed to dry out the remaining acne. I’ll probably give it another few more days to clear up.

I’ll never ever use hand soap on my face again.

Ran Over A Fat Bird

with 3 comments

I was traveling along Alexandra road, very much cautious after the accident on Friday.

A lorry, just in front of me, swerved from the left to the right lane. Instinctively, I slowed down. From under the lorry’s rear tires, the corpse of a very fat grey bird got thrown out towards my car. The size of the bird freaked me out so much, that I grabbed the steering wheel hard.

In less than a split-second, I ran over the bird. Two consecutive loud thuds coming from the left tires and the car shook (as if I just ran over a speed hump). It was the biggest bird I’ve ever ran over. Looking through the rear mirror, I could see feathers all over the road.

Something is really really wrong with my luck.

Friday Night Mayhem 170709

Varun will be leaving for London on Saturday night (end of his school holidays), so we threw him a little farewell party. Kia Wee, my classmate whom I haven’t seen for almost 8 years, turned up for dinner as well.

Kia Wee is in the 2nd row from front, 3rd guy from the left. Varun is in the 3rd row, 3rd guy from the right. Caleb and Jiarong were from another class. You’ve got to agree with me that we all look almost the same as we did 8 years ago!

Had steamboat buffet dinner at Happy Joy Restaurant @ Bukit Merah Central.

Met up with ex-Victoria-School classmate Dr (to-be) Varun Reddy for dinner at Dian Xiao Er @ Tampines One. I haven’t seen him for almost 8 years and I could still recognize him from far. He’s currently a 3rd year medical student at Imperial College. He just came back for a short holiday and will be flying back to London on Saturday.

Blackberry Of All Pencil Boxes

with 7 comments

Wenjie and I have each gotten the “Blackberry” of all pencil boxes. Available for $14 at Mustafa.

The pencil box has an eraser compartment, a series of magnifying glasses, a thermometer and an angled tray for writing instruments.

Jessie and Amelia, on the other hand, have the “Motorola” of all pencil boxes. They are almost similar in design, with a larger storage compartment but minus all the features. Theirs cost $8.

Friend : Haha, that pencil box is for kids!

Me : Do you know why I bought it?

Friend : Why?

Me : When I was young, my mum didn’t buy that for me.

Friend : Reliving your childhood days eh?

Me : Exactly.

Collision Report 050709

with 5 comments

Time : 0855 H

Venue : Changi South Avenue 4

Injury sustained : Abrasions on right elbow

Activity being carried out

Sunday morning training,

Injuries caused by

Protuding lump of tar on the road.

Immediate action taken

Continued skating. After training, Samuel eagerly ran to his van and retrieved a bottle of Green Grass oil. He grabbed my hand and held it there, while Margaret poured the oil onto my wound. It felt as if someone had poured acid on the wound. Thankfully, it wasn’t a big patch of missing skin!

Lesson learnt : Green grass oil really hurts. Never fall when Samuel is around.

I Killed A Bird With My Car

with 2 comments

Birds normally fly away in time when a car approaches. Not this time.

I was going at approximately 40km/h. There was a bird in the middle of the lane. As the bird was trying to fly away, my car bumper caught it in mid-air. I assume it was quite a huge impact because of the loud “pop” sound. The collision sent the bird tumbling past the left window.

Immediately after the collision, I noticed another dead bird lying on the ground.

The only logical explanation I can think of :

1. The bird was engrossed in trying to move its dead friend.

2. It didn’t notice my car coming and therefore wasn’t able to fly away in time.

For the next half hour after that accident, I was in a state of shock, until Jessie managed to talk me out of it.
