31st Month Anniversary

*points at the GAP paper bag*

Me : What? You bought something again?

Jessie : Just a dress for this weekend.

Me : How much did it cost? Why can’t you wear other dresses?

Jessie : I need a dress for this weekend.

Me : So every time you wait for me to finish class, you go off somewhere and buy something. Am I right?

Jessie : It’s for you. Happy anniversary.

She gave me a peck on the cheek and handed me the GAP bag,

My balls went up to my throat! And it stayed there.

Dad and I have breakfast every morning… together, excluding weekends of course. We don’t talk at all, we just eat our own breakfast and read the papers. Then we swap the papers (Home and World news section).

The only time we have a conversation, is when there’s news about an upcoming recession. He would tap the paper hard with his fingers. Then he’ll look up from the papers with his fingers still tapping on that article. The usual conversation…

Dad : Recession. Lot of people going to get retrenched.

Me : Uhm ya *chewing*

Dad : You all better study hard. One day I lose my job, you all will be in trouble.

Me : Uhm ya.. *chewing* studying..

Dad : You tell me you’re studying? Weekends, you’re not even at home, always staying over at Jessie’s place for projects. Are you sure you have projects? How come your projects are never-ending? I tell you..

Me : I need to go to school. *gets up from the table*

Dad : Fine. It’s up to you to listen.

A few days ago, the same thing happened again.

Dad : See? Recession again. At the end of the year a lot of people are going to get retrenched.

I wasn’t going to let him say the same thing this time.

Me : Then you work hard to keep your job.

That stunned the fuck out of him.

Dad : What?

Me : What’s wrong? Upcoming recession right? If you don’t want to get retrenched, you’ve got to work hard.

Then he lost it. Like totally.

Dad : What do you mean?! What do you mean by working hard?

Me : It means you should outperform everyone.

Dad : Do you understand the market right now? How to work hard? You tell me. Are you sure you know what you’re talking about? Don’t say things anyhow!

Me : You are the one who doesn’t know what you’re talking about!

The argument got heated, and Mum, who was preparing breakfast in the kitchen and quietly listening to our conversation, decided to intervene.

Mum : He’s correct. The correct word is working hard, I agree. You want to keep your job, you need to work hard. At the end of the year, if your performance appraisal isn’t good enough, then out you go. Same thing for my side as well.

Dad : You both don’t know what you’re talking about.

I just can’t think of a conclusion for this entry.

A.D Business Studies Completion

leave a comment »

Finally, the 3-month wait for the final module result has ended. I took the Advanced Diploma in Business Studies (part-time) during my National Service days, and finally, Jessie and I have graduated from the course! Ironically, while we’re in the middle of a year 2 degree programme with Uni Newcastle.

The final score : 3A,5B,2C,1D. Not that good, but at least some improvement from my pathetic Poly GPA score of 1.85.

I would like to thank the following people, from the bottom of my heart :

My family – For forking out the $. Dad rushing down to Funan to buy printer ink for us, while we were rushing through the projects. Mum cooking dinner for us when we had no time to go out and buy dinner. Michelle lending us her notes and textbooks.

Jessie – For sticking with me, thick and thin, and being the discipline master of the group (screaming at those who did not do their work). I would always remember those late nights and low-morale moments while the both of us were stressed out rushing through the projects. I was the real grumpy one (throwing textbooks around, slamming doors, pounding on the computer table) and she was there to comfort me when I needed it the most. And oh yes, for drawing little cartoons and ridiculous amounts of “I LOVE WAIKIAN” all over my lecture notes. I love you, my girl!

Kwok Leong – One of the best team members we’ve ever had. We were considered very lucky to be able to work with him. The only person I know who can stay awake for 48 hours continuously (work, project, back to work, then project). The three of us worked hand-in-hand to finish compiling (even redoing!) the work of some motherfuckers in the group who gave crappy work and lots of excuses.

Not to forget those folks in camp, during my National Service days, who helped me out indirectly :

Chief Clerk Wenny and Captain Ben – For letting me take leave and off for my exams without fail, every single time. They even told me to study hard and wished me all the best of luck for my papers!

Jason, Boey, Kaiwen, Alvin, Victor, Ning Wei – For covering my duties while I was away for almost a week at a time. And for covering my ass while I was hiding in the strong-room studying for tests and quizzes. You guys would always help me read the R.O early, so that I could rush off for school on time.

Thank you all so much!

Finally, we can now apply for credit exemptions!

Jessie : 28th birthday right?

Kwok Leong : Yes, in dog years.

Haha! That means in human years, he’s only 4 years old!

Happy belated birthday bro!

I was waiting for the traffic light to turn green when some JB biker dude knocked into my side mirror. He regained his balance on the bike, then weaved through the heavy traffic, and disappeared. Even before I could yell FUCK!, get out and confront him.

Thankfully, no scratches.

Ezeefit Ankle Booties

with 2 comments

Ezeefit ankle booties, a must-have for blister-prone people like me!

Ezeefit ankle booties.

Finally, after one and a half weeks, those Ezeefit ankle booties have arrived. in tip top condition!

I missed out on the USD15.00 per pair, and ended up ordering 2 pairs. These booties are so thin and tight, they act as a second-skin protecting the ankles and heel from blisters. I can now skate on consecutive days without worrying about my boots becoming bloody.

If you’re having problems with abrasions or blisters due to footwear, I suggest you get a pair to avoid all that pain.

Inkstation

When I bought the Canon Pixma MP145 earlier on this year at a fair, I thought it would have been perfect for my study needs. It was cheap and had 3-in-1 (scan, copy, print) functions, perfect for churning out chunks of lecture slides. When I bought the cartridge, I had a shock. $29.90 for a black ink cartridge which depleted so fast!

This week, the cartridge went empty again. So I decided to say SCREW YOU to original cartridges. Why do I need high quality ink for? I’m going to end up throwing away all the slides at the end of the year! And I headed down to Sim Lim to get some SEPOM cartridges. I had a damn tough time finding the shops which sold those refills, and when I did, they didn’t have any refills for the MP145. At that point of time, SEPOM was the only brand I knew which provided cartridge refilling solutions.

Jessie spotted Inkstation from far, and decided that we try it out. I bought a pack of 3 black ink refills for $10. For a $10 product, the customer service was excellent. The sales rep took a dummy set, and explained the refilling process in detail. He also assured me that if the cartridge happens to screw up (rarely though), just buy the original cartridge then follow the same steps to refill it when it’s empty.

I went home, and did all the refilling in less than 5 minutes. No injections required!

Inkstation Step 1

Step 1 : Assemble everything on the table, including the empty black ink cartridge.

Inkstation Step 2

Step 2 : Place the cartridge into the base.

Inkstation Step 3

Step 3 : Using the screw, make a hole through the cartridge.

Inkstation Step 4

Step 4 : Empty the refill pack into the cartridge.

Inkstation Step 5

Step 5 : Tape the hole up with a sticker. Job done!

The only problem I’ve encountered so far is that the ink level on the printer display is always shown as EMPTY. I’ll have to make do with that, and pop in another refill when my printouts start fading. Other than that, it’s absolutely worth the money.

It has been 6 years since I last saw Caleb, my secondary school classmate.

Pang invited him over to join us for a few drinks at East Coast, and… we had so much catching up to do! There was so much talk on stuff like… Hey, have you heard about XXXXX, he’s like in UK now… or erm… let me think… oh yes.. how about XXXXXX, I think he’s probably in jail now.

I had so much fun laughing at the stuff we used to do during Victoria School days.

Pang brought up the topic about the monthly stripping thing they used to do in class. Once a month, they would pick someone in the class, gang up on the poor guy, and strip him, just for fun! After the incident, one particular guy even got the nickname Mouse Dick!

Our conversations also covered some stuff on this so-called jacking trend, where everyone would just grab the birthday boy, spread his legs, then repeatedly ram a broom into his privates, causing grievous pain.

Things are looking good! Almost perfect!

Two of my students have finished their exams, and I’m only left with two right now. This leaves me with more time for studies and sports!

It’s 4:30 pm now. I have just finished a long skating session. The weather was awesome. I even got a singlet tan! This would not have been possible a week back because of the students.

I have two hours to do my tutorials, before I go off to teach from 7 to 8:30 pm.

Fucking awesome!
