Russell Peters is coming to Singapore, on the 03-04 November. His evening performances will be held at The Rock Auditorium, Suntec City.

Few weeks back, the four of us (William, Wen Jian, Jessie and I) went down to a SISTIC outlet. The tickets were snapped up so fast that we only managed to get Category C (restricted view) tickets for $79. Moreover, we had to sit in pairs, in a staggered formation.

I’m hoping that the view isn’t as compromised as it sounds.

I know what you are thinking of right now. Thanks for reminding me how fucking inaccurate weather forecasts can be. So let me rephrase that.

It’s going to be sunny tomorrow, I presume! Time to put those skates to good use.

Timing Your Routine Tasks On The Computer

with 2 comments

I keep a stopwatch on my computer table now. I start timing the moment I launch Mozilla and Thunderbird. The sole purpose of this stopwatch is to keep track of how long I take altogether to…

1) Check and reply my emails

2) Briefly view the few forums I’m a member of

3) Check the university blackboard for any new course material

4) Reply emails

5) Blog, as well as run through my blogroll

6) BBC and CNA news

7) Friendster and Facebook for any new requests (not cupcake and all that crap requests). Send and reply messages if I need to.

Altogether, I took 20 minutes (without publishing long entries with pictures on Orangeous). Without the stopwatch I would have spent almost an hour doing the accomplishing the same tasks.

The stopwatch ticking away, made me subconsciously aware of my time constraints, and as a result, I refrained from the time-consuming habit of surfing around, browsing through random stuff on Wikipedia, Youtube and stuff like that.

If you have a habit of surfing around aimlessly and wish to cut down, I hope this stopwatch method works for you.

Amnesiac Veronica And The Injured Motorist

Amnesiac Veronica And The Injured Motorist

Amnesiac Veronica And The Injured Motorist.

Veronica could have been suffering from amnesia. She forgot whether she made a cup of tea.

The motorist could have been injured, a chunk of flesh carved out from her shoulder. She’s now looking into her shoulder, at a mess of fatty tissue and bone.

I had an interesting conversation with the Primary 2 boy tonight.

Boy : Your car is a new car?

Me : No, old car. Why?

Boy : There is not many things inside the car. How old is your car?

Me : My car is 17 years old already! I have no money to buy things to put inside my car.

Boy : Oh. My house is older than your car.

Me : How old is your house?

Boy : It is 99 years old.

Me : HAHAHAHAHAHA! Who told you that!

Boy : I heard my mum talking on the phone to her friends. She says our house is 99 years.

I guess he meant 99 years leasehold.

Time hasn’t been on my side recently. I find myself so packed, I’m actually thinking about the next task even before I complete my current one. When I reach home, usually about 10 pm every night, I feel pretty much physically and mentally drained.

On the brighter side, it made me feel extremely productive everyday. Gone were the days when I used to ask Jessie… What now? Where are we going later? Now, we both are like… Fuck! When can we chill out?

It’s a good thing that I’m taking school seriously now, unlike how I screwed up during my poly days. I’m currently working hard to complete assignments way before the deadline and drawing mind maps after every lecture, so that I can chuck the bulky lecture notes aside.

I’m starting to think I made a big mistake picking up tuition for that little extra income. It’s starting to rob me of all the precious study time I need. Dad’s pretty much against the idea of me teaching tuition. He says…

Why give tuition? Are you already that confident in your studies? Do you think that small amount of money is worth it? Should you fail your subjects, do you think you can even afford a re-module?

I just can’t leave those 4 students hanging there. Especially when few of them have started to show improvement in their school work and attitudes. They no longer skip tuition and are looking forward to it instead. They are finally taking their studies seriously now, after I fed them with lots of motivational bullshit.

Skating and gym’s pretty much on track. Sometimes I have no choice but to hit the gym after lunch, and it feels weird training on a full stomach not getting a pump because all the blood is in my stomach. I finally covered some decent distance on the skates this week, and technique is slowly but surely beginning to improve. Screw all the time I spent searching articles on ankle pronation! I had ignored the golden rule for newbies, which is to skate more in order to build up the much needed ankle strength on speed boots! The biggest problem now is that my thighs are still not strong enough to stay in a proper bent position throughout the journey, and I will have to make do with interval training involving deep knee bends. Jessie was really nice. She rented a bike and followed me throughout a couple of 20 km skates. She’s awesome! When I have the cash, I’ll buy her a nice red racer!

I think I need more time to get adjusted to the new schedule. It came as a huge shock to me, after months of lazing around. I hoping that the more I get used to the schedule, the easier the tasks will be.

Wet Bearings

leave a comment »

I got drenched, right down to my underwear yesterday. On my way back from SAFRA Changi to Fort Road (where I parked my car), I was forced to take shelter when the sky started pissing heavily. Jessie had a fever and was waiting for me to pick her up, so I had to be quick! I put my helmet back on, took a deep breath, and skated back to Fort Road in the rain. The rain cleared the track of pedestrians and I had a smooth but soaking wet journey back to the car. Upon reaching home, I gave the skates a quick wipe with a clean dry cloth, before chucking them into the car boot, never to be seen again till the next skating session. I did not realize that I just made an abso-fucking-lutely stupid decision.

Today, I somehow had the urge to check if my skates were alright. So I popped my boot, picked up the skates and gave the wheels a quick spin. The freaking thing jammed on me! Either the bearings rusted themselves silly, or there was so much hardened dirt within them that they couldn’t spin at all!

That means I will have to rip everything apart, clean the 16 bearings with solvent and then oil them again!

I really hate to oil bearings!

Inverted T-shirt

with 6 comments

I was teaching a Primary 1 girl tonight…

Student : Your t-shirt is upside down.

Me : Erm… *looks down at my sleeve, sees nothing wrong with it* It’s supposed to be like this!

Student : I think you wore your t-shirt upside down! Really!

Me : No! Thank you! Please get back to the question. You have 5 minutes left.

While she was doing her work, I quietly slid my hand into the back of my t-shirt and searched for the tag. And… I found none! The tag was on the outside. White tag on a brown t-shirt, really obvious.

She was right! My t-shirt was inverted after all.

Jam outside Liang Court

Jam outside Liang Court.

I thought 45 minutes was the longest time I’ve ever taken to leave a car park. That happened last December at Vivocity.

Last night, we took one and a half hours to leave the car park at Liang Court. There was a massive jam outside, and the rain made it worse. We were stuck from 9:30 pm all the way till 11 pm!

I’ll never go back there again on a Saturday night!

Carlos and Gabbie Mating (video)

with 8 comments

Gabbie started menstruating a week back. Carlos, which was sterilized almost a year ago, was still attracted to the smell and tried to hit on Gabbie many times. We were always quick enough to catch him in action, but we soon got sick and tired of having to watch over them.

So we made Gabbie wear pants to prevent any intrusions.

We filmed them trying to mate. As Carlos got more and more aggressive, Michelle tried to separate them, but failed to do so.

Then we realized that Carlos actually bypassed the pants!

Hooked Onto Xbox

with 13 comments

One of my younger students, a 7-year-old boy, was so hooked onto Xbox that he spent all his time after school playing on it. The situation worsened after he got a few new games, almost a month back.

Tonight, I happened to read his Pupil’s Handbook out of curiosity. I stumbled upon a Parent’s Signature column without a signature. As I dug deeper, there were lots of comments from the teachers about how poor his performance was and that his homework was not being handed up despite repeated warnings.

So I searched his bag and found lots of incomplete homework stashed away. A month’s worth of homework. I confronted him, he cried and confessed.

Apparently he was addicted to the Xbox. Every night, when it was time for him to go to bed, he would realize that he had homework which was not done. So he chose not to submit them, and instead told the teacher that he had forgotten to bring his work. Yes, I do go through his homework twice a week. But for the remaining three days when I’m not there, he simply chucks them into his bag, never to be seen again.

Do you have any more homework this week? No, the teacher didn’t give me any. Alright, let’s move on.

I still can’t believe that the teacher, after noticing so many parent’s signatures not yet obtained, did not even take the initiative to even call his parents.

After 30 minutes worth of crying and choking on words, he begged for forgiveness. I told him that I would only forgive him if he would let his grandfather lock up his Xbox for a month.

He agreed. The Xbox was locked up. And I forgave him.

SCM 21km Confirmation

21km confirmation.

Too scared to run the full 42km, and wanting a bit more challenge than the 10km. That’s how I ended up in the 21km.

It sucks to be in the middle of nowhere. Everyone I know is either in 42km or 10km! Jessie, Razlan, Robert and Michelle (my sis) are in the 10km category! Let’s down a couple of beers right after the race!

If you’re interested in joining us, let us know! Race is on the 7th of December.

The more the merrier!
