Penang 2005

with 12 comments

Penang trip with my mum, Michelle and Robert (sis’s bf). Grandma’s going to ask where my girlfriend is… Havent been back for 4 years, the old folks have got a lot to comment.

Day 1 (24/11/2005) : Left Singapore on coach (lol, budget). Mum was as usual telling us to "hurry up" and get into the queue. She was pretty much annoyed with the slow moving queue, kept making a lot of rude comments. "Mum! It would have been quieter without you around"…. that made her shut up for a short while. Then we realized how unlucky our words were. Mum held up the queue for a good 6 minutes before being escorted to the Customs room. Apparently her visa expired. If she decides to leave tonight, she has to forgo her Singapore P.R status. No way she’s going to Penang tonight. She had no choice but to get Dad to pick her up. Now, it’s just the three of us, with 6 bags of luggage. And.. a magic-clean broom, all the way to Penang. But it was quieter without mum. :X

Day 2 : Arrived in Penang early morning, then Kuan uncle whisked us off for some curry noodles before dropping us off at Grandma’s place.  Robert and I decided we’d be more adventurous today. We tried running up Penang hill, but we lost our way at the cemetry and decided to head back.

Day 3 : Mum arrived. Finally. Visited my auntie ( cousin PL’s mum ) at their shophouse before going shopping at Gurney Drive. Had dinner at a Thai restaurant in Butterworth.

Day 4 : Auntie came over with boxes and boxes of hair-dye + bleach.  The salon? Grandma’s kitchen! Had quite a lot of fun dyeing and bleaching everybody’s hair.

Then Kenderick, my good old Penang buddy, came to pick me up around 4 and brought me over to Batu Ferringhi. 4 years of catchin-up to do.

Day 5 : We found A&W while out shopping. I miss those coney dogs and root beer floats!

Had dinner at Hameediyah. The place is like Little India.

Day 6 : Visited Penang Hill (Ke Lok Si Temple) and other Thai temples.  Before heading back to Singapore in the night.

Actually there ain’t much places to visit, but the food… oh my.. delicious, made the trip totally worthwhile. Think Penang, think food! We ate an average of 5 times a day. Mostly at hawker stalls. Mum had an upset stomach one night  (puke, diarrhoea, puke, diarrhoea), so it goes to show that great food comes with great risks.  Can’t wait to get back to Penang after my NS.

A car conference held by babies. Not sure what they’re saying though, but a whole conference hall full of babies talking in their own language looks damn cute.

Chris and Bin's 20th Bday BBQ

with 10 comments

Was down with a bad bout of flu and fever for the past few days. Miraculously, I woke up feelin fine today. Recovered just in time.

Just came back from a really fun barbecue. Combined birthday celebration, killing 2 birds with 1 stone. Totally budget. Plenty of food (featuring: stingray, otah, prawns, curry chicken), plenty of vodka (courtesy of Nicole, Wenbin’s cousin).. it was a PERFECT barbecue.  Bin put in lots of effort getting the food ready while I was bed-ridden at home, thank you bro!

Not many people turned up, just… Nasye, Adeline, Pang, Waikian, Trisha + Wenbin, Donna and Nicole.  So much for "the more the merrier", tonight’s bbq was just the right size, small, yet fun.

Thank you guys for the cake!
